Is Humphrey on the clock?
Unfortunately, yes. I have sent him an e-mail and this message at the top of this post; if he doesn’t respond by 1 p.m., he’s out of the league.
I’ll just take his spot and go with hanley r.
Shut up hatch, I’m 45 minutes away from being bumped up to #2.
I thought he said last night in a post that he e-mailed it in?
I saw him post that as well RC. I’m not in the league but everyone knows baseball is my thing so I’ll be keeping up, at least with the draft haha.
RC — I saw that he wrote that, too. But he didn’t e-mail me a pick (I even checked my spam filter) and he now has 24 minutes.
I saw that post too Hanks. Sup heelatious, at this rate I am 3 days away from my first pick of Lefty Grove
All — Here is who is registered at our yahoo site:
Hanks
Capps
Casey
Massey
Hatcher
Yates
Flagan
Someone named Bronx Bombers (who is that?)
That means these players need to register — if you need the e-mail, let me know and I’ll e-mail the info to you:
Schoenberger
Heelatious
Heelsfan
Herman
Pollock
I know that one of you is Bronx Bombers, let me know who it is; but the other four need to register at yahoo so I can begin inserting rosters as the draft wears on.
And Humphrey has 15 minutes remaining…
That’s me Hanks. I was the first one, other than you, that registered.
Go figure. Thats an original name there atious
UPDATED!

It’s temporary hatch. Just wanted to put something in there, while I think of a better one.
And Humphrey has 11 minutes remaining…
I have Casey’s pick in hand, so Heelatious, get ready to select.
Got ya
depending on who he’s taking, I have my guy.
I just registered. Hanks, remember Shoenberger is on vacation….
The email I am using will be hawktime99@yahoo.com and I am registered Hanks.
heelsfan said he registered as well Hanks.
I don’t think I have the patience for this. And why am I sitting here anyways, my pick won’t be up for another two hours at No. 6.
Herman, give me a call when you get a chance. 252-268-7561
Hey Hanks…you going to kick out humphrey or do you want a last second replacement?
actually nevermind…it will take too long.
Just going to boot him; it’s too late to try to do another draw for a draft — it wouldn’t be fair to everyone to give someone that No. 1 slot.
My pick is in. You’re site froze up my computer, or it would have been in earlier.
Look at the Hermanator taking big Tex.
I can’t believe Yates passed up on him. I know Wright is listed higher, but with only three more RBIs than last season. A full year in the AL for Tex will be a monster year (at least I hope).
Herman, I agree there stats are quite similar but there are 2 clear factors in why Wright is a better pick:
1. 15-20 more stolen bases for Wright. Granted this is minute in terms of real baseball but not in fantasy.
2. More depth at 1st base stats wise for later round pickups
I can’t believe Pedroia went before Hanley!!
I’m glad he did.
I’m sure! And it helped me get Pujols at No. 3 — not bad, either…
That was my debate. Went with Hanley because he can do all five things well. Pujols does it all but run. Depth at 1b helped as well.
That’s why I wanted you to shut up about Hanley hatch. Didn’t want to give Casey any ideas.
If your brother will speed it up…
I’m not a fantasy guru. I really have no clue what I’m doing…
But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express this weekend!
Wish I’d of thought of that Ryan.
It is pretty clear that Hanley should have been #1. Pujols might give you a couple of more homers, but Hanley will make up for that with the SB
Your pick, BHatcher…
again?? Has Pollock made both of his picks??
And I have a draft card from Capps (his top picks), so his will be done when you send yours. Essentially, Flagan is on the clock.
Heelatious or Heelsfan, send me a text if my turn comes up any time soon. I got the little one and she is screaming at me to get of the computer. 252-521-1112
gotcha hatch.
I guess it’s ground to a halt until the self-proclaimed baseball legend can find time to submit a pick.

tim lincecum- starting pitcher- san francisco 1st pick, sorry for the hold up
thats what i sent last night, i just copied and pasted that from my outbox…
Here we go again. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!
Really. I thought I was going to get one maybe two more picks in tonight. Guess not.
Get your bro in gear.
Heelatious — he texted me about 10 minutes ago and said he’d send it shortly.
He’s your brother, dude.
And I have Schoenberger’s pick, so it might move a little faster after that…
Surprised by my last pick Heelatious?
Hanks, nobody here has had to deal with the aggravation that is heelsfan, more so than yours truly.
To quote one of the greatest baseball movies ever, The Sandlot, “You’re killin’ me Smalls!!!”
Make the pick.
Flagan,
Yeah, gotta admit, that one did take me by surprise. Billingsley has a heckuva an arm though. Could be a nice pickup.
The Netherlands and the Dominican Republic have a fantastic game going over on the MLB Network. 1-1, bottom of the 11th, and the Netherlands have the winning run on third with 2 outs. It has been a fantastic game.
heelatious,
Growing up I’ll bet you always got the best piece of fried chicken and always called front shotgun first. Would that be right?
The Netherlands won it!!!!
What a huge upset….again!!!
That’s why I love baseball!!!!
Flagan — I actually laughed out loud at that one.
Flagan, and Hanks,
You have no idea. Believe me folks, if me and heelsfan were on Everybody Loves Raymond, he would be Raymond, and I would be Robert.
Trust me boys, as far as my dear mother is concerned, the sun rises and sets with her little heelsfan.
Why is everybody all worked up about my first pick as Pedroia?
Don’t worry about it CC. Nobody would have taken Billingsley with my recent pick either. Make your plan and trust yourself.
I mean he is good enough to represent our entire country he can represent my fantasy team, batting 326 last year too.
SLHS2011Kid,
You a Red Sox fan are you.
SLHS I actually like the Pedroia pick, he is a big time player, and will do fine. Just some Red Sox haters up here.
Guys, I apologize for the delays tonight, but it’s kinda hard to get on my players about cell phones in the dugout, if I’m on mine during a game? Wednesday should be a little better, but still have a game with Kinston, and Thursday we have SL. Will do my best to pick up the pace. Sorry again.
Next to Cheers, Everybody Loves Raymond is my favorite sitcom!
Nothing wrong with Pedroia’s game, he’s just not a #1 overall selection in a fantasy baseball draft.
Love Cheers to Hermanator. Gotta love Sam “Mayday” Malone.
You wanna bet? Scroll up to the top of the page!
Flagan, you know you’re my blog idol, but Pedroia, despite the fact he was taken that high, is not worthy of being the #1 overall pick. Just my opinion, and we know the saying about those.
Heelatious — hang after your pick, because I have both of Charlie’s waiting
Flagan, that was flat out the best response anyone could have given to heelatious’ post. Yates had to ask me what I was laughing at so hard.
The SL-NL baseball game was moved up to Thursday at 5 p.m. if anyone cares.
Just having fun heelatious. HR and AP were at the top of my list too.
Alright, my pick is in. I’m hitting the hay. Check you guys tomorrow.
Larry the Cable Guy is in Kenansville tomorrow night. I got four tickets for my family. It is my youngest son’s birthday present. While the three of them are laughing it up, I’ll be here drafting baseball players. I just had surgery on my leg and I’m restricted to bed. Any of you going?
I love that guy! There’s nothing funnier to me than redneck humor. I love it!
Hanks, do you know if heelsfan is still with us?
Flagan — I sent him a text 7 minutes ago, but haven’t heard back. He may be down for the count. Send me a draft card, if you like; I already have one from Capps (who is THE MAN).
Flagan — that’s probably it. I’m crashing. Send me your draft card and I’ll put it in first thing after I get Heelsfan’s pick in the a.m.
THANKS, ALL! Good first day, with 4 1/2 rounds complete! Heck, at this rate, we could be done by the start of next week!
Heelatious: I know he is not the ordinary pick but he has the talent to be a big time player, he is still young and he was #1 because if I didn’t get him then i wouldn’t get him, he would have gone before pick 24. (my second pick)
Heelsfan: I myself am a Red Sox hater but I will be one of the first to admit I have all modesty when I see talent.
And Hanks are we having a VALUABLE, PRICELESS, and COMPLETELY ORIGINAL prize courtesy of The Free Press for our winner?
Hanks, I can’t use my leg right now so all I have to do is lie around waiting for emails. Starting around 6:30 I’ll be ready and have you a pick on the way shortly after your email. If I ever go more than 15 minutes after you post the pick ahead of mine without responding, call that first number I sent you because I might be dozing. This is some STRONG pain medicine that we wouldn’t want your man Favre to get too close to.
Flagan, you’re up: Heelsfan sent in a late-night pick!
SLHS — I’ll find something in the Free Press prize closet!
I want one of those Free Press Prizes!!
AGAIN — GREAT first day. I’m guessing Pollock is snoozing so we’ll call it a day.
To almost get through five rounds in one day is amazing. Thanks to all of you.
Good morning everybody. Time to get this party started.
Any chance we can go into the yahoo site and add our players to our teams. It just helps me see what I got and what I need
WOW, now I know I was slow yesterday, but this is pathetic!
Six picks in one update … not too shabby.
FLAGAN………where are you???????
I know you ain’t talking there heelsfan. We are all awaiting our four hour break coming later this evening.
I was kidding with Flagan. And you may be right, there prolly will be some downtime this afternoon…………………….I apologize in advance.
I will make them for ya heelsfan, I won’t let you down.
I know you will Hatch! HAHA, you would draft me Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, and maybe Reggie Jackson right? haha.
Two hours and counting…………….
Heelsfan — well, it’s been a shade over an hour but I’ve e-mailed him again. Of course, he’s the only one I don’t have a phone number for, although that will be remedied when I hear from him…
Nooooo! I was going to get you the rangers bullpen catcher and one of there low A starters. haha
Harden was a bit of a risky pick this high, he will either work out great for pollock or flop
I can’t believe someone hasn’t taken Fernando Rodney yet…
We just talked about Harden hatch. I agree, he’s feast or famine.
Just like a Tar Hole, always crying!!!
Roy and Hansbrough both cried on Sunday.
After beating who Hermanator…?
RC must be watching Manchester United and Inter Milan.
Hey heelsfan. I didn’t get an email. I emailed Hanks after checking the blog and seeing it was my pick.
Has Michael Young gotten injured today?
Quick update straight from ESPN: MRI revealed Twins C Joe Mauer has inflamed SI joint on right side of lower back; out indefinitely
Sorry, Capps.
How appropriate is it that the pick ahead of heelsfan was Slowey?
I picked over thirty mins ago……………Waiting on Hanks to post guys……
ya’ll play tomorrow night?
Tell me who you picked and I’ll send him my pick.
We play SL at SL, I coach the JV’s though. I took Gil Meche from the Royals
Games at 5:00pm
Goodnight everyone.
Hanks has died I think Flagan, and because of it, it appears this might be a wrap for tonight.
For starters, when our good friend Heelsfan said it had been “over 30 minutes”, it had been 14. I’m sorry that I was away for 45 minutes (from 10:45 to 11:30). I monitored this draft pretty much non-stop from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 p.m. — doing it through meetings and my Wednesday night basketball. I can’t believe you guys were fussing because I was away for 45 minutes!
Anyhoo, if anyone is still up, we can go for a few more minutes; if not, we’ll pick it up in the a.m. At this pace, we should be able to finish by Friday night.
Thanks for letting me vent!
It’s true, hanks had his laptop out the whole time at basketball and was checking for updates. He is very dedicated to this draft. I commend his efforts, but not necessarily his jump shot (j/k … kinda).
Quit your whinning Hanks…..haha. Suck it up and do your job, payback is coming tomorrow between the hours of 3-7:30. Got a game at South Lenoir.
Jump shot needs some work huh cyates???? Haha nice one.
Yates, thank you, my friend. Well, except for the jump shot comment. But the way I played tonight, I deserve that.
Heelsfan, call me in the a.m. We’ll work out something.
I’m gonna do my best to have some picks in some sort of order, but no promises. I did pretty good today considering I had practice from 3-5, then did the announcing for the Varsity game from 5-7:30.
Good morning everybody. Juiced for Success selects: Carlos Delgado.
Relax Hanks. Everyone knows you have done a wonderful job of managing this draft. Figured you fell asleep at the keyboard.
All 12 involved have really done well for nearly 13 rounds to be completed in a day and a half. If we continue this pace we could finish today.
Well flip you a carboard cookie heelsfan.
Hanks, I agree with Flagan, you’ve done a great job keeping this thing rolling, especially in the format in which we are doing this (e-mail, text messaging). We’ve done a very good job to get this far, this quickly. Kudos to all involved.
How appropriate is it that the pick ahead of heelsfan was Slowey?
Comment by Flagan — March 11, 2009 @ 9:58 pm
BTW- That was gold Flagan, gold!
What does everyone’s family do while they are busy researching and drafting players? My wife has been busy stockpiling peanuts and crackerjacks.
Sleep, at least after 9:30 or so. Then it’s me, my laptop, and the t.v. Last night it was me the laptop, and flipping back and forth between the U.S./Venezuela WBC game, and the Canes/Blackhawks game.
People still watch hockey?
Yes you have done a great job at keeping this thing rolling Hanks. Thank you. And thanks to everyone else involved as well. It doesn’t matter how hard you are pushed if you don’t do anything about it and 13 rounds in 2 days is doing damn good through email and phonecalls.
Well can someone put out an APB on Massey then so we can keep it going……………
I’m as frustrated as you guys — I’ve left messages and texts for him, talked to his mom and left a message at his grandmother’s house. If he hasn’t selected by noon, I’m making a pick for him.
I’ll select the best available player. Any qualms with that, anyone?
And if the person who hasn’t registered on the site yet would do so, we might have some idea as to who that would be…
And fix your time stamps, Hanks.
Freakin’ slacker…
Test
Atta boy…
not at all
Herman, Cameron Maybin played on my traveling team I coached. He is gonna be special before it’s all over with, but I’m not sure I would have taken him now? Maybe round 19 or 20. He is a great kid though.
Shameless plug.
I watched him play a high school game at TC Roberson as a senior. I was all excited about seeing this great player.
A kid from Burns lofts a lazy fly ball to center, Maybin jogs over, sticks the glove out and drops it.
I dropped my pen.
He followed that up with a 4-for-4, HR, 2B, 4 SB, 4R stat line to redeem himself.
guys i apologize for the wait earlier, i’m in college and on spring break and just slept a little late. once again i apologize.
There’s a story in there somewhere.
I really didn’t have a choice but to take him. I have a pretty stud pitching lineup, and just needed an OF and two utility guys to fill my roster, along with two pitching slots. I’d say Cliff Lee, Kazmir, Beckett, Javier Vazquez and the Big Unit is a pretty solid pitching staff…
Capps, what paper did you work for out west? Citizen Times? I came from the HDR and Chris Hobbs.
Wake up Flagan.
Snzzzzzzzz…………what, what did somebody say something?
heelatious, I am receiving my emails 5-10 minutes after the picks are posted on the blog. I emailed Shin-Soo Choo at 4:30 and still haven’t received a confirmation email. I don’t know why everything has slowed down so much. I guess my son’s laptop is tired.
Just messing on you Flagan, it’s all good. I’ve been at my son’s baseball game since 4:00, and just got back in the house about 5 minutes ago.
I have always used a desktop until mine quit the weekend before your last game in Pink Hill. When Hanks said the draft would be by email I had to get my son to let me use his laptop. I’ll bet my email has about a million entries by now. Anyway, the point is that I know very little about laptops. When my son got home this evening he told me the laptop was on power saver mode. He changed it to high performance and the emails are moving at warp speed again.
How did your son do today. Diamondheels told me that he was a 7th grader and plays for WMS. I still have the fungo but Diamondheels never called me back after I gave him my number. I guess he didn’t want an aluminum one.
I wish we were drafting three bench players.
I agree flagan. I think we should have cut out 1 OF and 1 Utility and had a couple extras on the bench. but not my league.
He started at catcher, and did a good job behind the plate. He got up twice, struck out, and was hit by a pitch. The team got rolled 15-1 by H.J. McDonald, who is a very stout bunch. They had a lefty on the mound that was flat bringing it. They are very big, very athletic, and hit the ball very hard. The kids didn’t give up, and I guess that’s the main thing.
BTW- If you are still looking for a home for that fungo, I would definitely be interested.
Oh yeah, one more update. SL won 15-10 over NL tonight. Either a whole lot of offense, or some poor pitching and defense, or a combination of both.
Ryan, I served as Alan Ford’s padawan at the Shelby Star.
A 7th grader starting behind the plate is pretty impressive. Lychak does a good job with pitchers and catchers.
The fungo is nearly brand new. My son played infield his whole life and then Eason moved him to the outfield so I bought the fungo to help him learn to play the outfield. Then he had shoulder surgery and was only able to DH so it didn’t get much use. It needs a good home.
I am flat on my back due to leg surgery but can make arrangements for you to get it. If you can get by Pink Hill school my wife can stick it in the trunk and give it to you when you come out there. Would you be able to get by there?
Yeah, I can get there, or more likely, my wife could, as I don’t get off work until 4:30, and that’s out at the airport. If you tell me when, where, and how much you want for it, I will make arrangements to get it.
Tell your wife to go to the front desk at Pink Hill School and ask for Susie Jones. Susie will walk out with her to our car and give her the bat.
She can take it with her tomorrow if that’ll work for you. I paid $45 for it. I’ll take whatever you think is fair. Just have your wife give it to Susie.
Sorry for all the delays tonight, we had a marathon at South Lenoir tonight. We sneaked out a win in Deep Run tonight 11-10, umpire had a dixie cup strike zone for BOTH teams, and it was a hit fest. We just managed to get one more guy across. It was disappointing to see the umpire make the pitchers for both squads work so hard. No corners, no nothing…..straight down the Hershey Canal was a strike and that’s it. Congrats to SL’s varisty squad for the win.
heelatious let me know if that suits you and if she’ll be coming tomorrow so I can have my wife put the bat in the car.
heelsfan, Lychak calls it the poot chute.
its the poop chute, haha. And herman, I hope you know that Smoltz is out til probably June at the earliest
Your right Hatch, it definitely is the poop shoot haha. Flagan if Heelatious dont get the fungo, let me know, I will take it for sure.
Don’t laugh at Lychak, it’s just as likely my old ears misunderstood what he was saying.
Flagan,
You tell me what you want for it. It probably won’t be tomorrow. E-mail me tomorrow, and we can work out the details. heelatious@embarqmail.com.
ok
Is it still heelsfan’s pick. I want to see the end of this but I don’t know how much longer I can wait.
who did you take Flagan?
Jesse Arredondo. I had to get some setup men. My starters can’t go 8 innings.
U Conn & Syracuse in 4th OT right now on ESPN.
Had no idea, oh well. Thanks Hatch. I made the pick while traveling west on I-40. Taking the weekend off to visit my parents. Thought I’d log on and see if the draft was complete yet — and it’s not. Everyone have a good weekend. We’ll see ya Monday.
I’m hoping Heelatious is still up, but I know Casey has crashed; I’ll get his pick first thing in the a.m.
I am hoping to load these rosters tomorrow night, so you’ll be able to start playing with your rosters this weekend.
THANKS TO ALL! It’s unbelievable that we finished a 12-team, 20-round draft in three days! Congrats!
And go ‘Cuse!
Heelatious is now a zombie at work today. I had just gone out in the recliner when my phone started buzzing with a text from Hanks. I woke up long enough to text Felipe Lopez, then went to bed.
Great job though guys. I echo Hanks thoughts, 12-team, 20 round draft, via e-mail and text, in 3 days is phenomenal. Sure wish I would’ve seen that ‘Cuse/UConn game. Man, that will be on ESPN Classic, like tonight!
So, who was Mr. Irrelevant?
Eric Byrnes I believe. Not a bad Mr. Irrelevant.
Byrnes in the 20th round is a VERY good pick. if he flops, you have lost nothing, but if he comes back from the hamstring injuries he had last year to regain his 2006 form, he will be a top 5 outfielder.
