REDISTRICTING CONVERSATION TAKES CENTER STAGE
As I mentioned in my Sunday column, the No. 1 hot-button topic for 2009 in Lenoir County is the possible redistricting of the county’s schools.
Ace reporter Chris Lavender performed a live blog from last night’s special meeting at Southwood Memorial Christian Church — and it was awesome. His stupid boss (i.e., ME) forgot to post a live link to it, but you can check out pretty much everything that happened at the meeting by clicking here.
My take: A fantastic job by Lavender; check it out.
HAPPY FAT TUESDAY
It’s Fat Tuesday for Mardi Gras celebrants who have one more day to let their hair down before Lent begins on Wednesday.
My take: Happy Fat Tuesday! Although, for me, it’s always Fat Tuesday. And Fat Wednesday. And Fat Thursday. You get the picture.
PITT BACK AT NO. 1 IN POLLS
With everyone around them losing and its big win against Connecticut last week, Pitt went back to No. 1 in both the Associated Press media poll and the USA Today/ESPN poll yesterday.
UNC fell to No. 4 in the AP and No. 5 in the ESPN poll, Duke rose to seventh in both polls, Clemson and Wake Forest are 12 and 13 in the AP and 13 and 14 in the ESPN, while Florida State is 23rd in the AP and 25th in the ESPN poll.
My take: Honestly, none of this means anything, but it’s fun to talk about. I still think Carolina is the favorite to win the title with either Pitt or UConn (second in both polls) another Final Four participant.
Remember last year, when all four No. 1 seeds made the Final Four? I bet you it doesn’t happen this year. This season is really set up for a George Mason-type team to make a run to the FF.
