Folks … Week 17 was a killer week.
Of the 23 of us who played last week, only 5 — that’s right: FIVE — of us finished over .500. I finished first with a pedestrian 9-6 record.
There were some crazy-hard picks, including Louisiana-Lafayette’s upset of San Diego State in the New Orleans Bowl in which only Trumpeting Penguin and CanYouReadThis were correct, along with Indianapolis getting its first win of the season with only three — me, John Q. Awesome and Petey Pablo — correctly picking it.
With all the craziness, Lee reassumed first place and is two games ahead of three-time blog pick ‘em champ JWade and three ahead of B (Brent Pelletier).

Well, well, well — look at who’s in first place overall: three-time blog pick ‘em champ JWade.
He took a 12-3 week and jumped ahead of Lee, who had held down first place for seven weeks. Randy Capps (12-3 last week, too) also passed Lee by percentage points.
It’s going to be a heck of a finish.
Horns turned in the best week at 13-2 — only missing Jacksonville’s upset of Tampa Bay and Arizona’s upset of San Francisco. Ironically, those two games turned out to be two of the toughest, with only four players (Blake H., Jourbet, JacqueStrappe and me) picking Arizona and only five (JacqueStrappe, Deep Run Dynasty, SealGirl, TrumpetingPenguin and CanYouReadThis) picking Jacksonville.

Eh, better late than never, right? Before you get confused, note this is LAST WEEK’S standings, not this week’s.
Anyhoo, great weeks were turned in by Jeff Howard and Deep Run Dynasty, who each went 12-3. Jeff’s only misses were West Stokes-Kinston in preps, Clemson-Virginia Tech in college and Carolina-Tampa Bay in the NFL; Deep Run was perfect in the NFL and his only misses were Swain County/Ayden-Grifton in preps along with Oklahoma State-Oklahoma and North Texas-Middle Tennessee in college.
The toughest games to pick were the West Stokes/Kinston game, where only four (Brent Pelletier, ECPirates11, Deep Run Dynasty and Petey Pablo) were correct and the Clemson/Virginia Tech game, where only five (John Q. Awesome, Smokin’ Aces, Jacque Strapper, Randy Capps and Deep Run Dynasty) were right.
The overall race continues to tighten with Lee now holding a two-game lead over three-time blog pick ‘em champ JWade and Randy Capps.
