I.C. Norcom, of Portsmouth, Va., completed its Cinderella run through its inaugural GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational by routing defending GSK champion Charlotte United Faith Christian Academy, 71-47, in the title game of the Summit Hospitality Group portion of the tourney.
Norcom (10-0) defeated three North Carolina private school powerhouses – Raleigh Word of God, High Point Westchester Country Day and United Faith – on its way to the title.
Virginia Tech signee Dorian Finney-Smith finished with 14 points in the championship game and earned the Summit MVP award. Devin Patterson scored 19 points while Decarlos Anderson and Jeremy Canty contributed 12 each in the victory.
United Faith was led by Braxton Ogbueze’s 19 points and by the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, ECU signee Paris Roberts-Campbell, who had 15.

Raleigh Ravenscroft got 16 points from tournament MVP Anton Gill to down Apex Middle Creek, 57-52, in the Shavlik Randolph Foundation portion of the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational Thursday night.
The GSK championship was the first for the Ravens in three appearances.
“When we were invited to this tournament a year ago by (tournament executive director) Bill Sewell, I knew we were going to have a good basketball team this year,” Ravenscroft coach Kevin Billerman said. “I didn’t know how good, but you can see that our team is still growing.”
Gill, a sophomore guard who averaged 16.3 points per game in the GSK, was 7 of 12 from the field. Madison Jones, who made the All-Randolph team with Marcus Bryan, finished with 11 points and four rebounds.
However, it was the team’s defense that caught the eye of its coach.
“This team played outstanding defense for 28 of 32 minutes,” Billerman said. “For 28 of the 32 minutes, we contained some of the quickest guards in the area.”
Middle Creek, also making its third appearance in the GSK, has improved each time it’s played in the Glaxo – finishing eighth in 2006 and fifth in 2008.
“To see the progression this program has made from going 1-43 to playing a championship in front of a lot of people, it is a very proud moment for me,” Mustangs coach David Kushner said.
The Mustangs (12-1) were led by Leon Hargrove’s 21 points. Quinton Ray, who joined Hargrove on the all-Randolph team, finished with 11 points.

Arden Christ School used 20-point-plus efforts from Duke signee Marshall Plumlee and Brigham Young signee Damarcus Harrison to battle past High Point Westchester Country Day School, 62-51, in the third-place game of the Summit Hospitality portion of the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational on Thursday.
Plumlee finished with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Harrison added 20 points and eight boards to lead the Greenies to the victory.
“We feel better today than last night,” Christ School coach David Gaines said, referring to his team’s loss to Charlotte United Faith Christian Academy on Wednesday. “We had a real heart-to-heart last night and again this morning. We’ve got to become the team we were a week ago.”
T.D. Dixon also finished in double digits for the Greenies (15-4) with 10 points.
Westchester (9-6) dropped its second straight game in the Glaxo despite getting 15 points, eight boards and five blocked shots from Deuce Bello. Josh Level had his own double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Wildcats, whose coach – Pat Kahny – admitted his team was a bit winded after the loss.
“We looked like two pretty tired teams out there today,” Kahny said of Westchester . “I don’t know if it was because of the three days in a row, the holidays or because it was a consolation-type game, but both teams looked lethargic. There were streaks in there where both teams looked pretty good, but there were other times where it didn’t look like the same two teams that have played each other before.”

It wasn’t where Raleigh Word of God coach Quentin Jackson wanted his team to finish – but he likes where they’re headed.
The Holy Rams (7-1) rolled over Georgetown University signee Tyler Adams and Brandon, Miss., 74-42, in the fifth-place game of the Summit Hospitality Group portion of the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational on Thursday. Although his team won the consolation championship of the Summit, Jackson said their eye was on a bigger prize.
“Each day we got better,” Jackson said. “We can build from this. … The guys are starting to understand what we’re trying to do; they’re playing together. … I’m excited about where we’re going.”
Torian Graham was spectacular for the Holy Rams, scoring 26 points on 10 of 20 shooting from the field, including 4 of 7 from behind the 3-point arc. He was aided by a 17-point performance from T.J. Warren, while Joseph Uchebo pulled down 12 rebounds for WOG.
Brandon got 11 points each from Adams and Trey Brown. Adams added nine boards and finished the Glaxo averaging 18.3 points and 12 rebounds per game in the tourney.
“We were glad to get out here and get some national exposure and get a win on a national stage,” Brandon coach Frederick Barnes said.

Cary jumped out to a 13-2 lead after one period and the Imps never looked back as they rolled past Durham Riverside, 57-41, in the third-place game of the Shavlik Randolph Foundation portion of the 2010 GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational Thursday afternoon.
The Imps led 27-15 at halftime and 45-29 after three quarters to cruise to the victory.
“I thought we started the game really well and I was real pleased with jumping out to a big lead,” Cary coach Allan Gustafson said. “More importantly, we were able to maintain that big lead.”
The third-place finish was the best Cary has had in the GSK since winning it in 1994.
“This was a nice way for us to finish 2010 and a great springboard for 2011,” Gustafson said.
Donte Johnson had 17 points and seven rebounds, while Anthony Shelton scored 15 to lead the Imps (9-3).
Riverside was paced by Terrance Thompson’s 12 points and six rebounds.
Pirates coach Tim Ross declined to participate in the tournament-mandated post-game press conference but passed along his congratulations to Cary via a tournament media assistant.

Staats Battle and Raleigh Broughton used the 3-ball to their advantage in Thursday’s first game of the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational and finished fifth in the Shavlik Randolph Foundation portion of the GSK with a 79-66 victory against Knightdale. The fifth-place finish is the best for the Capitals since 2001, when Broughton was fourth.
“We have six seniors on this team and they’re the glue for this program,” Broughton coach Jeff Ferrell said. “I’m just very proud of what they’ve accomplished. It’s been a long time since Broughton has won two games in the Glaxo.”
Battle hit 7 of 8 3-pointers – one short of the individual Glaxo game record – to score a game-high 26 points. His effort helped Broughton tie the tournament record for 3-pointers in a game (11), which is held by Kinston (1994). The Capitals also broke the record for 3-pointers in a tournament with 24; the previous record was 23 by Santa Ana (Calif.) Valley, also in 1994.
Broughton (10-2) had three other players score in double digits – Cyrus Stewart with 14, Conor Strickland with 13 and Devonte’ Graham with 12.
The Knights (7-7) were led by Deshaun Griffin’s 18 points, Jalen Jones’ 16 and Ahamad Abdullah’s 12 points and four assists.
“I have to give a lot of credit to Broughton for their shooting in their win,” Knightdale coach Battle Watkins said. “They were also really good at moving the ball around.”
